What is Chatbase?

Chatbase is a no-code platform for building AI agents that talk to your customers. You connect your own material, such as website pages, documents and past tickets, describe the role the agent should play, set guardrails, and then publish it to the channels where customers already reach you. The same agent can work in a website chat widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack, email and, on higher plans, voice calls.

The product started as a simple "chat with your data" tool and has grown into a customer experience suite with a helpdesk inbox, analytics and step-by-step procedures. It is aimed at support and sales teams, from small businesses launching a first bot to companies that need enterprise controls. Details are on the official Chatbase website.

Key Features of Chatbase

Agents for Support, Sales and Product Guidance

Chatbase frames its agents around three jobs: resolving support questions, answering pre-sales questions and nudging prospects toward a purchase, and helping users understand a product. One agent can cover several of these roles.

Procedures and Actions

You write procedures in plain language, for example the steps for handling a return, and attach actions such as looking up an order, fetching invoices or checking available slots. The number of actions and procedures per agent rises with the plan.

Interactive Widgets and Helpdesk

Instead of replying only with text, an agent can show interactive components such as an order-status card. A built-in helpdesk lets human staff and the AI work from the same conversation history when a ticket needs a person.

Model Choice and Playground

A playground lets you test the agent against real scenarios before launch and switch between models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Mistral and others.

Analytics and Backstage

Analytics group conversations by topic and sentiment, and a feature called Backstage lets you ask the agent itself to summarise what customers are struggling with.

Integrations and Security

Paid tiers connect to Shopify, Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom, HubSpot, Stripe, Zapier and more. Chatbase states GDPR compliance and SOC 2 Type II, says customer data is not used to train models, and offers HIPAA-eligible setups on Enterprise.

Chatbase Pricing

Chatbase does not list a free plan on its pricing page; each self-serve plan starts with a 7-day trial. Paying yearly gives a 20% discount compared with monthly billing.

Add-ons include extra message credits at $40 per 1,000, removal of the "Powered by Chatbase" label at $1,188 per year, and extra agents at $300 per agent per year.

Prices checked on 2026-10-27; check the official pricing page for current plans.

Who Should Use Chatbase?

  • Support teams that want an AI first line for repetitive questions across chat, email and messaging apps.
  • Online stores that need order lookups, return flows and product answers around the clock.
  • SaaS companies that want in-app guidance grounded in their help centre.
  • Larger organisations that need compliance features, audit logs and a managed rollout.

Is Chatbase Worth It?

Chatbase is one of the more complete platforms in the "train a bot on your content" category. Procedures, actions, widgets and a shared helpdesk move it beyond simple Q&A, and the long list of supported models lets you trade cost against quality. Setup needs no code, and the 7-day trial gives a fair chance to test it on real questions.

The trade-offs are cost and limits. There is no free plan, the entry tier is capped at 700 message credits and one agent, and integrations with tools like Zendesk or HubSpot, plus API access and voice, only arrive on the Basic plan at $120 per month or more. Branding removal is a separate yearly add-on. If you handle a modest volume of chats on one website, a cheaper tool may be enough; if you want one agent across many channels with room to grow, Chatbase is a strong candidate.
