What is Firecrawl?

Firecrawl is a web data API built for AI applications and agents. It searches the web, scrapes pages and crawls whole sites, then returns clean Markdown, structured JSON or screenshots that a language model can use directly. The core project is open source, and the hosted service at firecrawl.dev adds managed infrastructure, higher limits and enterprise options.

Its users are mainly developers and teams building AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, research tools and data products that need fresh information from the live web.

Key Features of Firecrawl

Search, scrape, map and crawl

Separate endpoints let you run a web search and get full page content back, scrape a single URL, list every URL on a site, or crawl a site in bulk, all drawing on one shared credit balance.

LLM-ready output

Pages are converted to Markdown with navigation, footers and ads stripped out, which cuts down the tokens sent to a model. JSON extraction and screenshots are available as additional formats.

Interact and Agent

The Interact feature lets you scrape a page and then click, type, scroll or navigate it using AI prompts or code. An Agent endpoint gathers data autonomously, with a few free runs per day.

Handles difficult pages

Firecrawl renders JavaScript, waits for dynamic content, and parses PDFs and DOCX files, so you do not have to manage headless browsers yourself.

Agent and developer integrations

There are SDKs for Python and Node.js, a CLI, an MCP server and installable skills for AI coding agents, plus listings on AWS and Google Cloud marketplaces.

Licensed content and compliance

The company has introduced Alexandria, a licensed source of web content, and lists SOC 2 Type II, regular penetration testing and PII redaction across plans.

Firecrawl Pricing

Firecrawl is usage based. One credit covers one basic page scrape, crawl or map; search costs 2 credits per 10 results, and JSON extraction adds 4 credits per page. Paid plans can top up with pay-as-you-go credits in $5 increments. Prices are in US dollars.

The pricing page also highlighted that annual billing saves roughly two months compared with paying monthly.

Prices checked on October 27, 2026; check the official pricing page for current plans.

Who Should Use Firecrawl?

  • Developers building AI agents that need to read live websites.
  • Teams creating RAG knowledge bases from documentation or company sites.
  • Researchers and analysts collecting structured data from many pages.
  • Product teams monitoring competitor pages or pricing changes.
  • Anyone who wants scraping without running their own browser fleet.

Is Firecrawl Worth It?

Firecrawl removes much of the plumbing behind web data for AI: rendering, waiting, cleaning HTML and converting it into model-friendly text. The free monthly credits are enough to prototype, the open-source core gives flexibility, and the MCP server and SDKs make it quick to plug into existing agent stacks.

Costs need watching at scale. Extra formats such as JSON extraction multiply credit use, lower tiers have tight rate limits, and credit rollover is only available from the Scale plan up. It is also a developer tool with no visual point-and-click interface, so non-technical users may prefer a no-code scraper. As always with scraping, you remain responsible for respecting site terms and data protection rules. For developers who need reliable, AI-ready web content, Firecrawl is a strong and well-documented option.
