What is Katalist?

Katalist is an AI creative studio aimed at performance marketing teams and agencies. It turns a script into a shot-by-shot storyboard, keeps characters and products consistent across those shots, and then converts the frames into video ads that can be exported for different channels.

The product started out as an AI storyboarding tool for filmmakers and storytellers, and that heritage is still visible: you work from a script, frame by frame. Today the emphasis is on advertising, especially reusing ads that already performed well and adapting them to new products, markets and clients without organising a new shoot.

Key Features of Katalist

Script-to-Storyboard

You can write a script inside Katalist or import one. The tool splits it into individual shots, generates a storyboard, and lets you adjust framing and shot types or regenerate any frame you are not happy with.

Product Swap Engine

Upload a reference photo of your product and Katalist places it into an existing shot or video, aiming to preserve its shape, label and colours while matching the scene's lighting and scale. One successful creative can then be rerun for other items in a catalogue.

Consistent Characters and Voices

A character is cast once from a reference and carried through every shot. You can also replace an on-screen character or just their voice when a client wants a different presenter.

Localisation

Winning videos can be adapted for a new market, including new lip-sync, so teams can reuse proven concepts across regions instead of producing each version from scratch.

Prompt-Based Revisions

Change requests are handled by writing an instruction against a specific frame, for example swapping one bag for another, and re-rendering the video rather than re-editing it manually.

Multi-Client Canvas

Assets for different clients and SKUs live in one workspace, which helps agencies manage many variations per brief and keep track of what was produced for whom.

Katalist Pricing

Katalist does not publish a price list on its website at the moment. New users can sign up for free and receive starter credits to build a first storyboard without entering card details. When those credits are used up, the company asks you to book a call so it can recommend a plan, which suggests pricing is tailored to agency volume.

Prices checked on October 28, 2026; check the official pricing page for current plans.

Because there is no public rate card, compare quotes carefully and ask how credits, renders and seats are counted before committing.

Who Should Use Katalist?

  • Performance agencies producing many ad variations for several clients.
  • E-commerce brands that want to reuse a high-performing ad for new products or SKUs.
  • Marketing teams creating UGC-style videos and product promos from a brief.
  • Teams launching existing campaigns in new markets that need localised versions.
  • Creatives and directors who want fast AI storyboards before committing to production.

Is Katalist Worth It?

Katalist is a focused tool for one specific job: getting more mileage out of ad creatives. Its product-swap and character-consistency features address real pain points for agencies that otherwise reshoot or re-edit every variant, and the script-first storyboard workflow gives creative teams a clear structure to work in.

The main drawback is transparency. Without published prices, it is hard to judge value up front, and smaller creators may find the sales-led process heavier than a self-serve subscription. As with any generative video tool, outputs still need human review for product accuracy and brand safety before they go live. If you run paid social at volume, the free credits are a sensible way to test whether the swap results look convincing with your own products before you book a pricing call.
