TruthScan
TruthScan detects AI-generated and edited images and PDF documents for insurers, retailers, marketplaces and fintech teams, returning a verdict, confidence score and heatmap via web app or API.

What is TruthScan?
TruthScan is an AI detection platform that checks whether images and PDF documents were generated or altered by AI. Its main audience is businesses that make decisions based on files their customers upload, such as refund photos, insurance claim evidence, receipts, ID images and bank statements. Each scan returns a verdict, a confidence score, a written explanation and a heatmap that marks the suspicious regions.
The product is positioned as a fraud-prevention layer rather than a casual checker. It runs in the browser for manual reviews and through a REST API for teams that want to scan every upload automatically, and it also offers a free Chrome extension for checking images found on the web. The site lists further detectors for text, voice and deepfake video alongside the core image and document engines.
Key Features of TruthScan
AI image detection
The image engine flags fully generated pictures, AI-assisted edits, classic retouching and face swaps. TruthScan says it analyses images region by region, so a small local change in an otherwise genuine photo is less likely to be missed.
PDF and document forensics
A separate engine checks PDFs such as invoices, statements and pay stubs for signs of AI regeneration or tampering. Every page of a PDF counts as one result.
Explainable results
Results include a probability score, a classification, a plain-language reason and a heatmap at no extra cost, which helps reviewers and auditors understand why a file was flagged.
API and batch workflows
All plans, including Free, include API access. Paid plans add batch uploads, CSV export of history and higher rate limits, and ZIP uploads let teams check large sets of images in the browser.
TruthScan Capture (beta)
For borderline cases, Capture sends the submitter a link to retake a photo live on their device, and the new image is attached to the original result. It is available on request while in beta.
Security and data handling
TruthScan lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification. Images are kept by default, while zero data retention is offered from the Business plan upward.
TruthScan Pricing
Pricing is usage-based: each plan includes a monthly pool of results (one image or one PDF page each), with overage charged per result. There are no seat fees, and the whole team shares one pool. The pricing page shows monthly figures alongside annual totals; the FAQ says annual prepayment saves about 20% compared with month-to-month billing, so monthly-billed prices will be higher than the amounts below.
Prices checked on October 27, 2026; check the official pricing page for current plans.
Who Should Use TruthScan?
TruthScan is aimed at organisations where a fake photo or document directly costs money. Typical users include:
- Delivery apps and online retailers checking refund and damage photos.
- Insurers screening claim evidence and supporting invoices.
- Fintech and lending teams verifying ID images, bank statements and pay stubs during onboarding.
- Marketplaces looking for AI-generated product listings.
- Newsrooms and trust-and-safety teams checking whether a viral image is authentic.
Individuals can use the free tier and Chrome extension for occasional checks, but the paid plans are clearly built for production volumes.
Is TruthScan Worth It?
For businesses dealing with user-submitted evidence, TruthScan offers a practical mix: a free tier with real API access, explainable results with heatmaps, and per-result pricing that scales without seat licences. The focus on documents as well as images sets it apart from detectors that only look at pictures.
There are limits to keep in mind. No detector is perfect, and the vendor itself notes that heavily compressed or re-screenshotted images lose the signal needed for a reliable verdict. The free allowance of 25 results a month is enough for testing only, unused results do not roll over, and zero data retention is reserved for the Business tier and above. Treat scores as a triage signal for human review rather than a final ruling, and TruthScan can be a useful layer in a fraud workflow.
