What is VoiceOS?

VoiceOS is an AI voice assistant for Mac and Windows that combines dictation with an agent that can take actions. You hold a key and speak: VoiceOS either turns your speech into clean, formatted text in whatever app you are using, or carries out a spoken request such as sending an email, scheduling a meeting, finding a file or setting a reminder. The site says the company is backed by Y Combinator, and the product is aimed at knowledge workers, founders and developers who want to type less.

Key Features of VoiceOS

Dictation Mode

Speech is transcribed in 100 languages, with filler words removed and grammar and formatting tidied automatically. Custom vocabulary, replacements and polish styles help it match your writing, and you can edit selected text by voice.

Agent Mode

Beyond transcription, VoiceOS can act in your apps: drafting and sending messages, filing tickets, scheduling meetings, searching the web with sources and opening documents.

Screen awareness

You can point your cursor at something on screen and ask about it, so the assistant uses what you are looking at as context.

Search across your files and apps

Spoken requests like finding a specific email, PDF or note are answered by pulling up the item rather than leaving you to search.

Reminders and follow-ups

The agent tracks tasks you mention and brings them back at the right time.

Integrations and MCP

VoiceOS works across common apps such as Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Docs and code editors, and supports your own MCP servers for custom connections.

VoiceOS Pricing

VoiceOS has a single Pro plan for individuals and a custom Enterprise plan. Every new account starts with a 7-day free trial of Pro, but a card is required and the plan starts automatically unless you cancel. Annual billing is advertised as 60% cheaper per month than monthly billing, and prices adjust to your region. Students can apply for 50% off Pro, as can developers building VoiceOS integrations. After cancellation, existing accounts keep limited weekly access to dictation and Agent Mode.

Prices checked on October 27, 2026; check the official pricing page for current plans.

Who Should Use VoiceOS?

  • Professionals who write a lot of emails, messages and documents.
  • Developers who prompt coding agents and want to speak instead of type.
  • Founders and managers who want to trigger quick actions by voice.
  • People who prefer or need hands-free computer use.

Is VoiceOS Worth It?

VoiceOS goes further than standard dictation by adding an agent that can act in your apps and understand what is on screen, all for a modest annual price. Its privacy approach is a plus: audio is not stored on servers, transcripts are kept on your device, and dictation is not used to train models.

There are limits. It runs only on Mac and Windows for now, with mobile apps still listed as coming soon. The free trial requires a card, the low headline price depends on annual billing, and there is no ongoing free plan for new users. Agent actions also need confirmation that varies by action, so you still need to check what it does. If you spend much of your day writing or switching between apps, the trial is worth a try.
